The Globalising World: Conflict and Cooperation.

This comprehensive four-week unit, 'The Globalising World: Conflict and Cooperation', is designed for a Year 9/10 composite HASS/HSIE class in NSW, utilising a blended instructional approach. Students will explore the multifaceted nature of globalisation, examining its historical drivers, contemporary manifestations, and profound impacts on societies, economies, and environments worldwide. The unit delves into the causes and consequences of global conflicts, from geopolitical disputes to resource scarcity, and concurrently investigates the mechanisms and successes of international cooperation in addressing shared challenges such as climate change, human rights, and sustainable development. A critical focus throughout the unit will be the exploration of Aboriginal Peoples' connections to Country/Place and how these connections are expressed, maintained, and impacted within a globalising world, aligning with NSW syllabus outcome AS5-1. Students will develop critical thinking, research, communication, and collaboration skills as they analyse diverse perspectives, evaluate Australia's role in global affairs, and propose solutions for a more peaceful and cooperative future. By the end of this unit, students will possess a deeper understanding of interconnected global issues and the significance of Indigenous identities in shaping a globalising world.
